This is a campaign design for the fictitious Reykjavik Olympics. In this project I have used traditional cultural symbols to create visual elements with a dual message. For example, the logo is made up of three traditional Icelandic runes, creating a special “bind-rune” that serves as a uniquely Icelandic way of bringing the theme of welcome throughout the Olympic branding. Additional messages are found throughout the branding, drawing on runes and Icelandic magical staves, or Galdrastafur. The entire Reykjavík Olympic identity is built on a strong grasp of symbolism and shows how I can translate my knowledge into dynamic branding.
The runes used in the logo design are: Raido (travel), Nauthiz (protection), Algiz (patience), and Gebo (partnership). The wintery pattern design was inspired by the traditional lopapeysa sweater patterns Iceland is known for. The magical stave symbols serve to create a nice, snowflake theme throughout.
